Leading with a Purpose: Finding Meaning in Work Again

Leaders have a duty to help others find meaning in their work. Association leaders can get lost in renewals and attendance figures. The real work is remembering the people those numbers represent, as Associations Now writes in a recent article.

The trap is familiar: the metrics of attendees, membership renewals, and marketing statistics become more familiar than the people behind them. The focus needs to shift back to human connection to inspire motivation and a sense of purpose.

The same logic applies inward. Workplace wellness got a lot of attention during the pandemic, then quietly fell off the priority list for many organizations. But the human need for care and flexibility hasn’t changed.

Good leaders set reasonable expectations, protect boundaries between work and life, and offer flexibility where they can. Those aren’t perks, they’re conditions for sustained motivation.
