Seven Mistakes to Avoid When It Comes to Canadian Members and Prospects
Canadian associations can make common mistakes when it comes to recruiting and retaining members. From not providing enough value to ignoring the importance of networking and community building, there are many pitfalls to avoid. By recognizing the unique needs of their members, investing in marketing, and embracing technology, associations can improve their membership retention.
Mistake #1: Assuming that all Canadian members and prospects are the same. Associations need to recognize that Canada is a diverse country and each region has its unique needs and priorities.
Mistake #2: Not providing enough value to members. Members are more likely to stay with an association if they feel like they are getting their money’s worth in terms of benefits and resources. Associations should regularly review their offerings and adjust them to meet members’ changing needs.
Mistake #3: Not investing enough time and resources in marketing and outreach. Associations should use a variety of channels to promote their services and events, including social media, email, and targeted advertising.
Mistake #4: Not engaging with members enough. Associations should be proactive in soliciting feedback from members and responding to their concerns and suggestions. Members who feel heard and valued are more likely to remain active and engaged.
Mistake #5: Not having a clear membership retention strategy. Associations should have a plan in place to identify and address factors that may cause members to leave, such as lack of engagement or dissatisfaction with services.
