A Few Ways to Improve Your Organization’s Cybersecurity in 2023

As the cybersecurity industry continues to grow and evolve, many organizations are struggling to understand what they need to do to protect their data, people, and brands. To address this, organizations should consider a few key resolutions for 2023. First, they should consider having a security risk assessment performed to identify their cyber risks. If an assessment has already been done, organizations should focus on basic “cyber hygiene” areas, including multifactor authentication for every user, encryption for employee laptops, and consistent security patches. In addition, network administrators should use non-privileged accounts, change default account passwords, and disable accounts for departing employees. Organizations should also conduct regular vulnerability scans, have a solid backup strategy, and store backups in a network segment not available to standard users. This list serves as a good starting point for discussions with IT teams or vendors about their cybersecurity practices.
