Volunteer Engagement Strategies for Associations
Volunteer Engagement Strategies for Associations
The ASAE Research Foundation conducted a study on volunteer recruitment in associations, finding that in 78% of cases, volunteer numbers either increased or remained stable over five years, unaffected by the pandemic. However, according to an article by WBT Systems, some associations still struggle with volunteer engagement strategies for associations, raising questions about their approach.
Volunteers prioritize tasks aligned with their skills and offer meaningful experiences. Associations can enhance recruitment by increasing awareness, transparency, and emphasizing benefits. They should highlight the social aspect of volunteering, particularly its potential to reduce isolation for remote workers.
To improve volunteer experiences, associations should reconsider traditional volunteer roles and offer diverse opportunities, such as cohort program facilitators or online course mentors. Strategies include clarifying roles, preventing burnout, providing support, and assessing effectiveness and satisfaction.
Effective onboarding, mentorship, and training are crucial, particularly for subject matter experts (SMEs) involved in education programs. Associations must also train staff in volunteer management and foster community among volunteers. Regular communication and feedback collection ensure volunteers feel valued and engaged.
Involving volunteers in association decision-making processes and seeking their input fosters a sense of ownership. Ultimately, prioritizing volunteer engagement and satisfaction can transform associations, enriching online education programs and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
