ISA’s Innovative Online Community and Directory: Fostering Connections and Support in the Sign Industry

The International Sign Association (ISA) launched a new online community and company directory in June, drawing inspiration from the success of its 2021 virtual convention. During the convention, ISA created virtual rooms for members to chat about various interests beyond work, fostering personal connections. This experience led them to develop a platform that not only provides fun and collaborative spaces but also meaningful opportunities for members to connect and solve problems.

The online community includes three key forums: “All Things Signs and Graphics” for addressing shop floor issues, “Sign Codes” for supporting each other in navigating unique sign codes in different municipalities, and “Women Leading the Industry” to help women grow their careers in the traditionally male-dominated sign industry. The intention is to create more forums for underrepresented groups in the future.

Additionally, the new company directory allows members to search for suppliers, distributors, and sign companies. Members can participate and opt-in to be included in the directory, ensuring privacy.

The main goals of the online community and directory are to build a niche community and stay updated on member concerns. ISA plans to use the platform to facilitate microlearning for its new education strategy. However, they emphasize taking a long-term approach, recognizing that success will require ongoing support and nurturing of member relationships. ISA aims to communicate better with its members through this platform and acknowledges that it will take time to achieve these objectives.
